Meet Kirstyn

BIRTH & POSTPARTUM DOULA

Born and raised in New Orleans, Louisiana, Kirstyn George (she/her) is a birth and postpartum doula with a heart for community-centered maternal and infant health. Her path into doula work grew out of years spent in public health research, listening to pregnant and postpartum women talk openly about their experiences with the healthcare system — the gaps they encountered, the support they wished they'd had, and the outcomes that too often depended on the color of their skin. That listening became her calling. Kirstyn realized she didn't just want to study these disparities; she wanted to be in the room helping to close them.

She holds a Master of Science in Public Health from Meharry Medical College and has spent over five years working alongside pregnant and postpartum families across Nashville — first as a research assistant with Nashville Strong Babies, then as a doula with Homeland Heart, supporting Black and Brown families through Nashville's collective of birth and wellness professionals of color. Today, she continues that work as a doula and lactation consultant, providing hands-on labor support, breastfeeding counseling, and postpartum care rooted in evidence-based practice and genuine cultural humility.

Kirstyn believes every family deserves informed, personalized care and a not one-size-fits-all birth experience. She brings a public health lens to her doula work, translating research and best practices into practical, compassionate support, whether she's helping a client build a birth plan, working through a breastfeeding challenge, or offering steady reassurance in the middle of a long labor. Families who work with Kirstyn can expect a calm, knowledgeable presence who shows up prepared to advocate for them and meet them exactly where they are.

Outside of her doula work, Kirstyn is passionate about community health education, safe sleep and SIDS prevention outreach, being a part of maternal health review boards, and mentoring the next generation of birth workers of color.

East Nashville Doulas Birth Doula Postpartum Doula

We can’t say enough good things about our experience with our postpartum doulas, Brayta and Courtney.

The majority of our time was spent with our overnight doula, Brayta. She was a godsend—literally the reason I’ve made it through motherhood. This was our first child, and Brayta helped support me through long nights, frustrating nursing sessions, milk spills, all of it. Her patience and kindness were truly a blessing. She not only supported my journey as a mother but also took wonderful care of our baby.
