Meet Nakishia

BIRTH & POSTPARTUM DOULA

A native of Memphis, Tennessee, Nakishia Fouse (she/her) moved to Nashville in 2004 and has since dedicated her life to serving women, birthing people, and families with compassion, knowledge, and faith. With over a decade of experience in healthcare, she has worked as a Newborn Specialist Coordinator in the Hearing Department and later in OB/GYN, where she gained firsthand experience working alongside amazing physicians and caring for women & birthing people through every stage of their reproductive health.

In 2022, Nakishia trained with Homeland Heart Collective as a Birth and Postpartum Doula. After working in the OB/GYN field and completing her doula training, she knew she was ready to fully step into her calling—advocating for moms, birthing people, partners, and families to ensure they feel heard, supported, and empowered throughout their journey.

Nakishia always strives to learn more about the birth world so she can better serve the families she supports. She will complete her Megi Health High-Risk Doula Certification Course (Cohort 2) in December 2025, becoming a certified high-risk doula, and will finish her Breastfeeding Counselor training by the end of December. Her goal is to continuously grow in knowledge so she can show up fully for her families—to teach, reach, and advocate with excellence and care.

Outside of her doula work, Nakishia is a loving wife and mother to three beautiful daughters and a playful pup named DJ. She is also an ordained minister at Watson Grove Baptist Church, where she continues to serve and uplift others through faith and community. In her free time, she loves spending time with her family and close girlfriends, enjoys exercise, and believes deeply in supporting women’s overall health—mind, body, and spirit.

She guided me through what birth would be like, prepared me for the what-ifs, and made sure I felt confident every step of the way.

“I didn’t know I needed a doula until I needed a doula. Nakishia was a major blessing throughout the birth of my daughter. I wanted a natural birth, and she immediately said, ‘Okay, let’s do it.’ From sitting down with me to create my birth plan, to attending doctor’s appointments to make sure I understood everything and had the advocacy I needed—she went above and beyond. The educational piece of her care is superior. She guided me through what birth would be like, prepared me for the what-ifs, and made sure I felt confident every step of the way. From teaching birth exercises to showing me how to check my blood pressure, Nakishia empowered me to truly trust my body. I delivered my baby girl on all fours at St. Thomas. In the moments I wanted to give up, she reminded me of my strength and power—and we did it! I always tell her that if I have another child, I won’t do it without her. She’s also been my biggest supporter in breastfeeding, and even now—two years later—she still checks in on us. This woman is simply amazing.”
